Long Neck? Off With Its Head!

Made a new vid for people with African violets that are starting to resemble palm or bonsai trees with the long (sometimes twisting/coiling/winding) crazy necks. Get to chopping, folks!

Hope it's good--Comments welcome!

  5. Anonymous--Good luck, and that's a great idea keeping a coupla leaves, nothing wrong with a little "insurance"!

  7. Replant every 6 months. We had no idea and now have a little forest of palm trees. Decapitated the first one today and it's sitting in a baggie. Your video said that it would take around 2 weeks to start to throw out roots. Do you water at all while it's in the baggie? Is there any way to check if it's ready to be free of the humidity tent?

  8. Michele--Water if it's dry, just make sure not to over water. You want the soil to be damp, not real wet. Condensation will form on the baggie, don't let that trick you into thinking the soil is wet enough--It can be bone dry and you'll still have condensation, so always check to be sure.
You wanna make sure it has a good root system before rushing it outta the bag.. You will see roots forming, then maybe wait at least a couple weeks after that if you are eager, personally I wait like a month or so. :-)

  9. Thank you for such an informative site and for your reply.

How do I make sure it has a good root system? I have it in a pot in the bag. Does that mean I should wiggle the plant to see if it's more firmly in the dirt or gently dig around the dirt to see if it has rooted before removing it fully from the bag?
