Happy Thanksgiving 2012!!

Here's a pic I snapped today of one of the African violets I gave my favorite uncle Dwight a few years ago... I can't remember the name, but it looks like he's taking pretty good care of this one!

I mean, we've seen way worse specimens from other members of my family..
My theory is that the homebrew wine being made nearby is keeping the plant happy. I know it would keep *me* happy!
Hope everyone had a great holiday and ate way too much! It's the only day of the year where all calories are ZERO, so we all gotta take advantage of that!

Much Better!

Did major surgery and repotting on all my Dad's African violets... I am the best daughter in the world!

Here's a tip: Don't pinch the centers out of your single-crowned African violets! It makes hard work for whoever has to deal with them later.

Happy Easter everyone!

Dad's First African Violet Show

My dad and my stepmother Pat came to the Bay State AVS show today! They both really enjoyed it, and thought it was a lot more interesting than they expected!
They even bought 3 new plants in the sales room, and some of Cape Cod Violetry's soil mix. Now I'm gonna work on getting them to join AVSA.  Gonna try and make addicts out of them yet!

Dad and me :-)

More Family African Violet Abuse...

Against my better judgement, I just repotted the African violet ('Waterdancer') that Lenny and I gave my Grammy Golding for Xmas last year into a self-watering 2-part ceramic African violet pot. I tried to tell her it's not the greatest, but it's what she wanted. And my auntie Sally made the pot. So we'll see what happens. Watch it thrive just to prove me wrong :-)

Happy ThanksI'llDoItMyOwnWay

Here are the African violets I gave my dad last year for Xmas. I keep telling him the mini is NOT going to get bigger. I also keep telling him to put them all in lighter potting mix and SMALLER pots that are NOT clay, but I'm sure he's never gonna take my advice!
And they're still alive and blooming away, so really--why would he? :-)

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
